Regulation M-B is the format for the 2026 World Championships, and with 16 new Mega Evolutions entering the pool, the meta is being rebuilt from scratch. Most won't see Worlds. These five will.
Mega Metagross is the headline act. Base 110 Speed lets it outpace key M-A threats including Mega Charizard Y and Garchomp — two Pokémon that barely ever got outsped before. Stack that on top of already elite defenses and a wide movepool, and Mega Metagross is the most complete new addition M-B has offered.
Mega Swampert is the second name on everyone's lips. Speed Boost in rain means it accelerates every turn it stays on the field, and Wave Crash gives it a high-powered physical Water attack to threaten the field. Rain compositions that struggled to win speed ties in M-A now have a win condition that gets faster as the game goes on.
Mega Staraptor does something no previous Mega in Champions has done cleanly: it weaponises its own debuffs. Its Contrary ability flips Close Combat's Defence and Special Defence drops into boosts, letting Staraptor become progressively harder to KO while it continues to deal serious damage. Every Close Combat makes the next one more survivable.
Mega Mawile brings Huge Power to the Mega slot — an ability that doubles Attack. Mawile's base Attack is modest, but Huge Power makes every physical hit hit twice as hard in practice. Fairy/Steel typing with solid bulk means it does not fold easily to neutral hits.
Mega Blaziken rounds out the five. Speed Boost was already one of the best abilities in the game on regular Blaziken. Mega Blaziken puts more power and bulk behind it. Knock Out one Pokémon, gain a speed tier. Knock out another, gain another. By turn three it is frequently the fastest thing on the field.
